On 22 Feb, around 5:30 am local time, a barge hit the Lixinsha bridge in Guangzhou, leading to the death of two individuals while three others were missing. The allision was severe as a part of the bridge broke off and fell onto the barge and into the water.

The Guangzhou Maritime Safety Administration said the ship was coming from Foshan and was headed to the southern district of Guangzhou when it hit the bridge. The allision was so severe that the structure broke off, and a bus and a few motorcycles plunged into the water. Media outlets have reported that two people were rescued while the search for others is ongoing. As per CCTV media reports, the administration has stopped traffic on the affected route, and ships have been advised to take a detour. The captain of the barge has been detained.
