CMA CGM has announced a groundbreaking strategic partnership with Google to speed up the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) across its operations worldwide.
The partnership intends to improve adaptability, efficiency, and responsiveness to shipping, logistics, and media activities.
CMA CGM intends to utilize Google’s proven AI technology to develop a design that empowers employees’ decision-making processes across crucial workflows.
The partnership aims to streamline container handling, inventory management, and vessel routes, ensuring timely delivery of goods while reducing costs and carbon footprints.
CEVA Logistics, CMA CGM’s logistics arm, will lead the data-driven future of logistics, focusing on smart warehouse management.
CEVA intends to enhance volume and demand forecasting using Google’s technologies, allowing for better prediction and planning of operations within its 10.3 million square meters of warehouse area.
The partnership also includes CMA Media, which will provide enhanced technologies to assist journalists with their regular duties.
Google’s AI skills will help with document synthesis, translation, media snippet generation for social networks, and archive digitization, all of which will streamline media operations and improve content creation.
CMA CGM will also benefit from intensive training sessions at TANGRAM, the Group’s excellence centre for learning and innovation.
The sessions will allow employees to use AI in their professions, establishing a culture of constant development and adaptation.
The AI-driven transformation expands on CMA CGM’s prior investments in Dataiku, Mistral AI, PoolSide, and the launch of the open scientific lab Kyutai.
The company is also extending its operations by acquiring Bolloré Logistics and creating branded air freight and passenger ferry services.
With almost 620 vessels and orders for over 80 more, CMA CGM is set to become the world’s second-largest container carrier by 2026.
Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that the collaboration is consistent with their digital plan and investments and represents a critical milestone in our transformation strategy.
Saadé added that in collaboration with Google, they will lead the digital revolution in shipping, logistics, and media, streamline operations, and strengthen their market position.
