The US State Department said that a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker, MT POLLUX, was struck by a missile in the Red Sea. The oil tanker MT POLLUX was en route to India when the incident happened. As per the details released by British Maritime security firm Ambrey and United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKTMO) the oil tanker was hit approximately 72 NM northwest of Mokha, Yemen. The security agency confirmed that the crew onboard was safe and that the vessel MT POLLUX suffered only minor damages.
“The naval forces of the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a targeting operation against a British oil ship (Pollux) in the Red Sea with a large number of appropriate naval missiles,” Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said in a statement, adding the strikes “were accurate and direct”.
MT POLLUX departed from the Port of Novorossiysk on January 24 and was expected to reach the discharge port PARADIP, India, on February 28. The vessel is a 244-meter crude oil tanker managed by Sea Trade Marine SA of Greece and owned by Oceanfront Maritime Co SA.
