An Israeli-owned capesize bulk carrier, Cape Legacy, suffered major hull damage after colliding with the Chinese cargo ship Feida 138 in the Yangtze River estuary on March 7, 2025.The collision occurred around 16:12 in the Yuanyuan Sha warning area, with both vessels inbound through separate channels at the time of impact.Reports reveal that Feida 138, a 12,800 dwt dry bulk carrier operated by Jiangsu Feihongda Shipping Co, ltd, was approaching from the South Channel, while the 180,000 det Cape Legacy, managed by Israel’s Mano Maritime, was navigating through the North Channel.The two vessels made contact in busy shipping waters, leading to visible damage on the Cape Legacy.

Images circulating online show large gashes on the port side of Cape Legacy’s bow, along with scrapes on the hull. The vessel, which was transporting 90,000 dwt of iron ore, experienced water ingress due to the damage.

After the incident, several tugboats and two crane ships-Dong Nan Qi No. 12 and Dong Nan Qi No. 9-were deployed to assist. The Cape Legacy was initially stranded near the accident site, occupying part of the waterway, before being refloated on March 8.

It was then moved to Baoshan Beimaodi Anchorage in the Yangtze River for a full inspection and assessment by maritime authorities.

Meanwhile, Feida 138, which is 134 meters (440 feet) long, was relocated to an anchorage. However, details regarding the extent of its damage have not yet been disclosed.

Despite the severity of the impact, no crew members on either vessel sustained injuries. Reports also confirm that there has been no environmental pollution or oil spill in the area.

Mano Maritime, a subsidiary of Mano Holding Group, confirmed that Cape Legacy was under pilot guidance and had a tug escort at the time of the collision.The company has not released further details about the exact cause of the incident.

Cape Legacy, built in 2011 by Daehan, has been part of Mano Maritime’s fleet since 2015. The company, founded by Israeli shipowner Moshe Mano, is involved in cargo shipping, cruise operations, and real estate.

According to shipping databases, Mano Maritime recently sold another capesize bulk carrier, Cape Friendship (186,000 dwt, built in 2005 by Kawasaki Heavy Industries), for $16.1 million.After the sale, Cape Legacy remains the company’s only capesize vessel.
